Our mission
A natural and personal
way of saying goodbye
Bloemenband is the way to create a personal and loving farewell. With a funeral flowerband, bereaved families can insert loose flowers into the loops together and decorate the funeral casket in a unique way.
Each band contains approximately 170 to 180 loops, making the farewell a communal ritual. Family and friends each contribute a flower, creating a beautiful alternative to traditional floral wreaths at a funeral that is not only comforting but also lasting and symbolic.
This particular custom originated in April 2020 during the funeral of a dear friend. Since then, Bloemenband® has helped many families say goodbye in a personal way. Something we find indescribably nice and special.
Our values
What we stand for
Durable and made with
love
Our Bloemenbanden are handmade from unbleached cotton, an eco-friendly material that is a perfect fit for those who choose a sustainable funeral or a natural cemetery.
Whether the funeral casket bloemenband goes with you to the final resting place, or stays with the family as a memory: we make sure every detail is right. In addition, loose flowers in a band are an environmentally conscious alternative to large bouquets or floral arrangements on the funeral casket.
Bloemenband for urns, memorials and more
Bloemenband has now found its way into many different funerals. At the same time, the idea arose to also look at other ways of commemoration and remembrance. Thus the question arose whether there are possibilities with other fabrics and applications.
This search led to Bloemenband® now making special custom urns. In addition, there are bloemenbanden that can be used around a tree, for example at a place where ashes are scattered. Bands have also been designed for memorial statues and monuments.
A special extension is the wrist bloemenband which can be tied around the wrist of a deceased person or around the arm of next of kin or bearers. This creates a loving ritual that suits not only the flower-rimmed casket, but also other forms of farewell and remembrance.
The team behind
Bloemenband®
Behind Bloemenband® is a team of people. First and foremost is creator and creator Jantine Kraaijeveld (see genesis).
She works with Mieke Visscher who supervises the external socially responsible ateliers and does the shopping. At the Atelier in Amsterdam, the Specials are produced by loving hands in their own workshop on weekdays.
Zorgvlied 2020
The origins of Bloemenband
The life of
Bloemenband®
begins at Zorgvlied
We take you back to 2020. A turbulent year, not least because of corona. In April 2020, Mark Kingsford, actor and director, passed away.
Loved by everyone who knows him, especially by Jantine Kraaijeveld, actress and theater designer. The two have known each other for many years and work a lot together.
A few days before the funeral, Jantine, quite in keeping with the creative relationship she had with Mark, devised and made a special band of fabric.
An idea that catches on
The funeral is at Zorgvlied in Amsterdam. A big farewell is not possible, but she and the next of kin want to show how much people cared about Mark.
Tied around the casket is the first Bloemenband® she made. The handmade textile band contains loops for loose flowers. And anyone who wants can put a flower in it upon arrival at Zorgvlied.
Bloemenband® was born, and Jantine noticed that many more people take comfort from this special way of saying goodbye.
And precisely because it is a personal gesture, she wants to get involved in the production of Bloemenband® only in a personal way. herself. After all, you raise children yourself.
A new ritual
Bloemenband® is quickly being noticed by funeral homes and, through them, by bereaved families who need to organize a funeral. It adds, as it were, a new ritual, and also a new dimension, because now everyone can add, even more than usual, a token of sympathy and comfort.
